Ayodhya, the holy city known for its deep spiritual and cultural heritage, is preparing for another grand addition. A Ramayana-themed wax museum will soon be opened on the premises of the Ram Temple, bringing to life stories from the great Indian epic. This unique museum will be inaugurated during Deepotsav 2025, an annual celebration that already attracts devotees and tourists from around the world.
The museum is part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s plan to strengthen Ayodhya’s place on the global tourism map. By combining tradition, history, and modern technology, the project aims to give visitors an unforgettable cultural and spiritual experience.
What the museum will display
The Ramayana-themed wax museum is being constructed along the parikrama path of the Ram Temple. It will cover an area of 10,000 square feet and feature about 50 wax figures of prominent characters from the Ramayana. These include Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Lakshman, Lord Hanuman, Sugriv, and Jatayu.
Each wax statue is being designed with intricate details to look life-like. The expressions, costumes, ornaments, and settings are being created with historical accuracy to make visitors feel as if they are part of the Ramayana era. The goal is to allow devotees and tourists to engage with the epic not just as a story but as a vivid, living experience.
The museum will also recreate key episodes from the Ramayana. Visitors will witness wax depictions of the battle between Ram and Ravan, Sita’s abduction by Ravan, Hanuman’s heroic journey to Lanka, and the construction of the Ram Setu bridge. These events will not be limited to wax figures alone. Advanced audio-visual effects, lighting, and interactive technology will add depth to the displays, making them more engaging and educational.
The statues are being crafted by a team of experts. A Maharashtra-based organisation, in partnership with specialists from Kerala, is working on bringing the characters to life. Their combined efforts will ensure that the artistry matches the spiritual significance of the project.

Government vision and cultural impact
The project is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a cost of around Rs 7.5 crore so far. This approach is similar to the Bhool Bhulaiya project in Amaniganj, which was also created with private collaboration and government supervision.
Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar confirmed that construction is moving forward quickly. The work is being closely monitored to make sure the project is completed on time. The wax museum is seen as one of the most ambitious projects currently underway in Ayodhya.
Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Kumar has also highlighted the cultural importance of this initiative. According to him, the museum will add a fresh dimension to Ayodhya’s spiritual and cultural landscape. It will not only attract pilgrims but also appeal to tourists, historians, and students interested in India’s rich cultural heritage. The immersive experience will allow visitors to relive the Ramayana in a way that is both informative and inspiring.
Alongside the wax museum, several other development projects are taking shape in Ayodhya. Road widening, beautification of the Saryu ghat, and major infrastructure improvements are all part of the plan to transform Ayodhya into a world-class religious and cultural hub. These projects are expected to make the city more accessible, comfortable, and attractive for visitors from across India and abroad.
Deepotsav, the annual festival where millions of lamps are lit across Ayodhya, has already put the city on the global map. The tradition has set world records and has become a symbol of devotion, unity, and cultural pride. The addition of the wax museum during Deepotsav 2025 is expected to draw even larger crowds and make the celebrations even more memorable.
A new cultural identity for Ayodhya
Ayodhya has always held a special place in the hearts of devotees. With the construction of the Ram Temple and now the upcoming Ramayana wax museum, the city is strengthening its identity as not just a holy place but also a cultural landmark.
The museum will serve as a bridge between tradition and modernity. While it is rooted in the timeless tale of Ramayana, its use of wax artistry, technology, and interactivity will connect with younger generations and international tourists. It will give people from all backgrounds the chance to experience the values, stories, and characters of the Ramayana in an engaging way.
By investing in such projects, the government aims to turn Ayodhya into a major stop for cultural and religious tourism. The city’s transformation is not only about infrastructure but also about presenting India’s spiritual heritage to the world.
As Ayodhya prepares for Deepotsav 2025, the upcoming inauguration of the Ramayana-themed wax museum marks another milestone in its journey. The museum will stand as a reminder of India’s rich epics and traditions while giving visitors a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience.
